Hello January, hello 2018!

There’s always a buzz around the start of a new year – the realisation that we all have a fresh 12 months ahead of us, the seasons to go around again, a clean slate, clear minds and new ambitions. Now, I have never been one for new years resolutions as such but in the strange limbo period that lays between Christmas and the new year, the few days of not really knowing what day is it (or caring for that matter), I inevitably ponder over the months ahead and how I would like to spend them. And by that I mean the small manageable things here and there that I know I can achieve and slot into my daily life that will take me a tiny bit closer to the person I would ultimately like to be. I’m not talking crazy goals or ambitions (although I will continue to play the lottery so you never know…), I am talking the small changes I know I can conquer to make myself a happier me.26540783_1784343981629259_1149076429_o26513404_1784343921629265_362038947_oOne thing I would love to get back into in 2018 is reading more. I actually started this year by beginning to reread one of my favourite books – The Catcher In The Rye. I figured the best way to ease into becoming more of a book-worm was to go back to a familiar book I knew I loved. I have plenty on my bookshelves that I have collected but never quite got round to reading, but I am really going to start to make an effort to squeeze more reading time into my routine because I absolutely love reading – when I find a good book of course! Any recommendations? or any book blogs I should know about? I would love to hear them!

I think all bloggers have blogging aims they work towards, whereas I have pretty much always taken as it comes. This year I would love to get into a more steady routine of posting, weekly would be ideal, or maybe more if I can manage it! I recently bought my own kinda fancy camera (thank you Jessops sale), so I am hoping to create more high-quality content for Instagram and for here on my little corner of the internet. I feel there’s not much point making any goals for how many Instagram followers I would like to gain as the goddamn algorithm is never in my favour, but I aim to continue to post daily. And who knows, maybe 2018 will be the year I stop looking so bloody moody in all my pictures and maybe I’ll learn how to pose properly, but I wouldn’t hold your breath…26540930_1784343894962601_422978591_o26543148_1784343971629260_1514222162_oTrousers – Zara (similar here) | Jumper – Vintage | Boots – Primark (similar here) | Bag – Biba (similar here)

Back in 2016 I qualified as a makeup artist, and in 2017 I qualified as a hairstylist (updos for proms and weddings etc, not cutting!) so I would really like to start pushing my little business this year, especially for wedding season in the summer. I did makeup for a few friends of friends who got married last summer and I absolutely loved it. I bought a domain to create my own website a while back but never got around to finishing all the pages and making it look just how I want, so it’s not quite live yet! It’s so scary putting yourself out there when you have a skill to sell, and it’s even harder to stand apart from the crowd. Norwich is such a small and creative city (which is one of the things I adore about this place), but it means you really have to stand out to get noticed. Luckily since I started out in makeup I have managed to gain some really valuable contacts and I have met so many lovely people who have given me a massive help in starting out and getting my name heard. If you would like to support me in this venture you can view my portfolio here and like me on Facebook here ❤️26543024_1784343878295936_2130324019_o26610885_1784343914962599_1677371575_oNot making enough time for my friends and family is something I definitely want to change in 2018, and generally, I want to get out more. When you work full-time and have a flat to run it’s so easy to just get up, go to work, come home, make something eat and go to bed. Repeat. Before I moved to Norwich city centre I envisioned I would be out weeknights going to gigs, exhibitions or meeting friends for drinks but sadly this wasn’t the reality. But why can’t it be? There’s so much going on in this fine city and yet I find myself barely ever venturing out to explore! I really need to get more up to speed with what’s going on around me, and start spending more time with the people I love and miss and not just get stuck into the mundane day-to-day routines.

As I get older I realise the importance of taking care of myself. My diet has never been that bad, but to be honest it has never been that great either. I have been a vegetarian for about half my life now, but this allows room for a lot of cheese, bread, potatoes and a general carb fest. I am considering going vegan maybe 2 days a week and see how I get on, not for any particular health reasons, but from a sustainability aspect I do believe veganism is the way forward – it’s just biting the bullet to bloody go for it! If I ease into it a couple of days a week I’m hoping eventually it will be easier to go vegan full-time. Got any easy vegan recipes for beginners? Send them my way!26513914_1784347514962239_1364978787_oMany moons ago I used to enjoy going for a run every now and then, this was back when I lived with my parents so my only route was to one end of the village to the other and back again. Highly exciting. Since living in Norwich I have always thought how many great running routes there must be, so 26544003_1785230454873945_381711174_owhat better time to start again than now in the new year? I have never been into fitness, I bloody hated p.e. in school – especially anything that involved being outside – but as I have gotten older I really enjoy being out in the fresh air, and Norwich is rather pretty so I reckon I could get behind a run along the Wensum every now and then.

Something else I want to give more focus going into 2018, is how much I need to take care of myself in terms of skin care and a general beauty maintenance routine. A major part of the appearance of looking and feeling healthy is decent oral hygiene. ToothStars were lovely enough to gift me this Oral-B PRO 2 2000N electric toothbrush*, and it has really helped step up my beauty regime. Although brushing your teeth may seem like one of the more mundane tasks we have to complete in a day, it’s a really important step in all of our morning and evening routines and something that deserves some time and investment. If you were thinking of treating yourself to an electric toothbrush in the new year, check out ToothStars electric toothbrush guide to help you pick the right one for you!

Do you have anything you are working on in the new year? I would love to hear what you are all planning on working on as we start this fresh new year!

Until next time
