Going hand in hand with a love for everything vintage growing up, I developed a love for retro blouses. Sometimes ugly, usually oversized, occasionally floral and always buttoned up to the top. It’s been a staple look of mine for nearly as long as I have been able to go out and buy my own clothes. Not always the most fashionable of garments, but for someone who never took much notice of trends growing up, retro blouses were (and still are) my fail safe. My comfort zone.
There were always 2 things I would return home with from charity shop shopping trips when I was in high school, these would be vintage blouses and vintage bags (one such bag features in these photos). I can still hear my mum now… “not another one… Don’t you already have one like this?!”. And to be honest, not much has changed, blouses and bags are still my first port of call when I am charity shop browsing. And I will continue to buy them. (sorry mum).
To dress up or dress down, I will always feel comfortable in a button up shirt. And for me, comfort is vital. Even when looking through the photos used in this post, I liked almost every shot (unheard of)! And I put that down to the fact I was simply comfortable. I was shocked at the difference it made when looking through the photos, I could tell that I was confident in what I was wearing, and it showed big time.
Although this is one phase I think my mum hoped would have faded out a long time ago, it’s definitely not going anywhere soon, and that’s just how I like it. It’s so easy to second think an outfit when someone looks at you with a crinkled nose as if to say ‘are you really going out wearing that?!‘ but if there’s one thing I am good at, it’s sticking to my guns when I’m wearing an outfit I truly love. Even though some vintage blouses I have sported over the years may have widely been seen to be hideous, they brought me joy and that’s all the matters. There’s nothing I love more than finding these little gems when I’m rummaging through charity shops.
I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know in the comments what your go to comfy items are, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
