I’ve been a huge fan of the The Ordinary skin care for a few months now (you can read my An Introduction To The Ordinary here), so when I heard they had launched foundations I was eager to try it! Currently they offer a serum foundation and a full coverage foundation (more formulas are on the way according to their website), I went for the coverage formula as this has always been more my thing. At the great price of £5.90 (!!!!) and with an extensive colour range, it seemed like a no brainer to give it a go.
However, getting my hands on it wasn’t as easy as I had hoped, due to it being in such high demand and therefore constantly sold out. Luckily, Victoria Health allow you to order it even when it’s out of stock, and send it to you when it’s back in (their service is amazing!). After I placed my order it was about a month before it came through my door.
The Ordinary foundation comes in a card box which has all the info you need on it, similar to their skin care products. However, unlike their serums the foundation bottle is made of plastic and not glass which is a bit of a shame but no biggie. There is a pump dispenser which has a rubbery feel (think Nars packaging), which in my experience can get dirty pretty quickly, but again this isn’t really an issue. There is no lid for the pump, instead it rotates to lock so you can’t be unknowingly pumping it in your makeup bag (unless you forget to lock it… it’s only a matter of time…). I imagine it’s getting rid of things like a lid and the glass bottle which allow them to sell it for such a low price, and anyway who am I kidding even if it had a lid I would definitely lose it within a week. I just need to remember to lock it!
I applied my moisturiser and primer as usual before applying the foundation with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush and it glides on like a dream! It doesn’t cling to any dry patches, it doesn’t settle into fine lines and it blends out beautifully.
Before & After
Does it do what it says on the tin?
The box claims it is ‘A high coverage creamy foundation that softens undesirable hues’ and as you can see from my before and after pictures, it definitely delivers on this. Bare in mind I only used one pump for my entire face, the coverage is amazing! It’s a flawless semi matte finish, that covered everything it needed to. It also claims on their website ‘The texture is that of a lightweight, non-oily cream’ which again, I would have to agree with.
Pros and Cons
~ The price! I have never tried a foundation this cheap which performs this well. It’s an absolute bargain!
~ The shade range is incredible. They have swatches of all shades on different skin tones and there is a shade guide to help you pick the right colour for you
~ One pump goes a long way!
~ Conceals blemishes and evens out skin tone
~ Doesn’t gather on any dry patches, glides on like a dream!
~ Cruelty free, alcohol free, vegan, oil free, silicone free, nut free – basically no nasties!
~ SPF 15
~ The delivery time! Like I mentioned before, mine took about a month to arrive as it was sold out when I ordered it. Hopefully they will stock up to meet demand.
~ I would have liked the bottle to be glass like their serums to give a more luxe feel, but I understand it’s these sacrifices that allow them to sell such a high quality foundation at such a low price so I can’t grumble at it too much.
Overall I really like this foundation and I am excited to see what other products The Ordinary release!
Have you tried this foundation or the serum formula? What are your thoughts?
Until next time!
