Let’s be honest – everyone struggles from time to time with achieving that perfect winged look that is always made to look so easy. Whether you’ve been doing make up for years or you’re a beginner, we all have those days when we whip out the eyeliner and no matter how steady, calm and slow we go, the eyeliner simply says ‘nah not today, not happening’.
Although the struggle can be very real, there are things you can do to ensure you get the best results possible. There are many different methods out there, so there is bound to be one to suit you. This is just what works for me 🙂
First of all, if I am doing a make up look with eyeliner, I will always apply the majority of my eye make up before my foundation and base make up. You will see why in a bit.
Here is a pictorial of how I usually apply my eyeliner…
I start out with an eyeshadow base, on this occasion I used MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre. I apply this all over the eyelid all the way up to my brow. I then apply eyeshadow, but only to the eyelid. I leave the bottom lash line completely free of product for now.
After the wing has been drawn out, it then usually (pretty much always!) needs to made shorter, thinner, or just generally neater. What I do now is grab some micellar water and a small brush to tidy everything up. A cotton bud would work just as well, but I find a brush is more precise in getting that sharp line.
By using the micellar water sparingly on the brush (I normally blot it on a tissue first so it’s not too wet) you can really clean up that line, and make the point bit super nice pointy. This is why I always do my eyes before my foundation or it would take the foundation off with it.
After I have cleaned up my liner and I’m happy with it, I will then proceed to apply my base make-up. When it comes to applying my under eye concealer, I will then clean up the eyeliner even further using my concealer brush.
If I fancy I will then add a smudge of eyeshadow along the lower lash line, a bit of mascara and voilà!
The most important thing to remember when it comes to eyeliner is that if it does come out slightly uneven, it’s totally ok! Only you will know, honestly no one else will even notice. It just takes practise! You know the saying about eyebrows? How they are sisters and not twins? Well the same applies to your eyeliner. Don’t fret over it, just have fun with it!
Hope this was of some help to some of you 🙂 ❤
Until next time!
